A yagi with a heavy coating of ice will receive its designed frequency from the back as strong or stronger than from the front (pattern reversal.) This is caused by the ice reducing the velocity of the signal near and within the elements of the antenna. The antenna actually resonates at a lower frequency when ice coated (think of a tuning fork working in "very thick" air.) The Super Stinger design prevents dielectric loading of resonant elements, thus making it much more resistant to problems caused by snow & ice. Patent Pending
